If you think about it we all have several thousands of dollars invested in household appliances.  The hope is that investing in good quality appliances will result in a longer life for them.  In order to keep household appliances operating in optimal condition try this tips.  Let’s start in the Kitchen.*  If your dishwasher has a strainer or scrap bin in the bottom, clear it before running each load.  Periodically pour vinegar and detergent into the machine and send it through a cleaning cycle.*  Pull off your refrigerator vent plate, and use a vacuum hose to clean the condenser coils regularly.  While you’re at it, check the door gasket for damage, and use an all-purpose cleaner to keep it residue-free.*  Always run your garbage disposal using cold water.  Grind an ice cube through the unit once a week to help clean and sharpen the blades, and  run orange or lemon peels through the system every month to keep it smelling fresh.

Times have changed when it comes to finding your new home.   Not to long ago when folks were in the market for a new home they would contact a realtor and drive around for hours looking at homes.   Today time is a precious commodity and people don’t have the time to ride for weeks at a time looking at homes, checking out neighborhoods, clocking mileage to work and schools and so forth.   Today people shop for homes using the internet to help identify what they are looking for in homes and checking out homes with all the visual tours that are available on the various sites.   So many buyers want to get out there and quickly find that perfect home and the internet is a great place to start.   With so many good sites available to buyers a buyer can enter their “wish list” of home features and the computer will find homes that meet most if not all of their wants and needs.   This allows the buyers to shop in the privacy of their own home and then narrow down the number of homes they really want to see.   To help you with your next home search or just to see what is available currently in the marketplace be sure to check out The Guilliams Team  and we look forward to hearing your feedback on our site’s usefullness.

There are times when some of the big box stores can get a bad rap, but I have to tell you that the Lowe’s in York is the bomb.   The folks are super friendly and helpful and you would be surprised the deals that are there if you ask.   We started changing out light fixtures in our bathrooms to give it an inexpensive update.   All my lights came from Lowe’s and they were actually lights that were on clearance.   When we were shopping we actually asked about them and there were some in the back that were marked down and that is what we bought.   We also recently got a great deal on cabinets for the garage that Tim wanted in order to build in more storage and work surface.   The Lowe’s store was changing out the line of cabinets they were carrying and we got a killer deal on base cabinets and a countertop.   Here again, you just have to ask.     We all probably know to ask about scratch and dent items on sale, but if you are out shopping and in need of particular items be sure to ask if they have anything discontinued or items they are changing out.   Might be surprised the “quiet” deals you can find just for asking.

On Saturday night we decided to run some errands including a stop at Harris Teeter for some groceries just in case it snowed.   As soon as we walked into Harris Teeter we thought there was a party going on and we were crashing it.   There were people everywhere and the excitement and electricity wasn’t over the anticipated snow, but it was over coupons! It was crazy and I can only describe it as  a coupon party going on.   Women, and men,  were stopped in the aisles talking about the various coupons in their possession, the triple couple deals, the various ways to organize coupons and they even were carrying on these discussions with calculators in hand.   Talk about a serious sport, these folks were coupon  serious.    I was blown away by how much money I heard these people talked about saving each week and it definitely got my attention and I will admit that I started ease dropping and picking up pointers as I went from aisle to aisle. It was mind blowing.   I am the world’s worst for putting coupons in my purse with the best intentions of using them  only to find the coupons weeks (or months) later when I go and change out my purse and of course by then the coupon has expired.   This was  a wild scene for me, but today with so many people trying to find ways to cut expenses and save money these folks were on to something we all could learn from in our weekly shopping.   I heard some of the folks talking about some websites and I confessed, I had to check them out and there really are some great coupons for restaurants, groceries, personal care products and so forth.   Be sure to click on www.couponsuzy.com and www.couponbug.com.   I promise they have some very good coupons and there were lots of products that we use regularly and were shopping for on Saturday night.   I can tell you that the next time I go shopping I will have my coupons in hand because there are some great deals out there, but I do have to throw one caution out there to consider.   Really watch and compare prices even if you have coupons, because some store brand items may offer a better deal than items with a coupon.   Get in the game like these other ladies and have fun shopping and playing the coupon game by saving money each week on products that you and your family use.   Have fun!

As we wind down 2010 and prepare for a new year there are several opportunities that folks need to consider as part of their financial future.   For many reasons we all believe that the start of a new year is the perfect time to wipe the slate clean and get organized and ready to commit to goals and dreams.   Here are few important things to consider as you enter a new year.

*   Is this the time to refinance?   Interest rates are still at some of the lowest rates ever , but many experts expect the interest rates to begin to climb.

*   Should I consider buying my first home?   Investing in real estate is still one of the most sound investments folks can make and with just 4 more months of the tax credit for first time home buyers now is the time to start looking.

*   Are there advantages to consider in possibly buying a larger home?   With the interest rates still low and many options available for potential buyers now is the perfect time to explore all the many options.

If we can assist you in determining what is the right path to take when it comes to your home options give The Guilliams Team  a call today and let us help you.   We want to help everyone start the new year with achievable goals and a plan in place.   Best of luck to everyone in 2011!

As we quickly approach the end of another year we would like to take some time and thank you all for support, friendship and following  over the last year.   Exchanging information and new  tidbits has been tremendous and all the feedback we have received has been phoenomenal.   Social media is the way to stay connected, share ideas and pass along information that hopefully has provided at some beneficial tips and advice to our readers and fellow bloggers.   We are excited about the coming year and the new things  that we have planned that  will be coming your way.   Take this time to enjoy the holidays with family and friends and we look forward to all the new things we will find together in 2011!

Happy holidays From The Guilliams Team.
